An interpreter should be totally engrossed in his/her work in order to do correct and precise translation with no ambiguity.The concentration level needs to be very good.
An interpreter or translator has to be able to understand the exact meaning of what is being said in its true sense.Sometimes the conversation requires a systematic thinking to understand why a person is saying something or he/she may refer to some incident in the the past, which the interpreter should be able to make out.
An interpreter should be able to hold a piece of information for a short duration in his memory without manipulating it. As long as he/she has not conveyed the message across,the interpreter needs to keep in mind what was said.
An interpreter should take notes about the comments being made during a conversation in order to summarise the details in a comprehensive manner.
An interpreter should be able to speak out in a clear and concise manner about what is being said exactly by the people for whom he/she is serving as a translator.
He/she should have good interpersonal skills in order to communicate well with people from different places. Cultural cognizance:-An interpretershould have knowledge about the culture of various states/countries in order to communicate better.
An interpreter may have to work in various scenarios like in a telephonic conversation, a government MOU,a face to face conversation or as a tour guide.He/she should be able to adjust according to the situation.
